Motion Graphics Sequence in "Letters from Pyongyang"

We needed a visual sequence based on stills to demonstrate a quick rundown of a Korean family tree. I visited several museums in Korea and was inspired by traditional roof tiles and patterns. The movement was based on cells dividing riffing off the family tree theme. I pieced together elements in After Effects to get the final look that was true to tradition yet modernized in my style and voice.

These are traditional Korean roof tile covers - and not coins contrary to popular assumption. I used them as a decorative device and alluded to cell division riffing off the family tree theme.

A common pattern seen throughout South Korea in buildings & elevators.
